Fifty Shades of What Now?

I admit it, I read (or rather mostly read) the first book; Fifty Shades of Grey. I honestly did not like it. It wasn't the poorly visualized sex scenes or even the bad writing, it is was all the hype over it. What I have concluded is that women are so drawn to these books because we want a man to take control. To push us up against the wall and kiss us like you damn well mean it. To be desired, to be craved, to be able to get a man to the edge by just being ourselves. Most of us want a man to open doors, hold our hand and then devour us in the bedroom.

What also bothered me is that this type of book is nothing new.

Have people forgotten about Romance Novels? People scoffed and made fun of woman in the 90's who went to books signing for Fabio. It was common to see a paperback in every house wife's hand bag. My mother, gran and half sister have been reading Romance Novels for as long as I can remember. I myself have been reading "romance" novels since I was sixteen.

You may be sitting there a little confused so I'll explain. House wives have been hip to the erotic for eons. Have you ever read a romance novel? No? Go to any library and pick up one. Any kind really but for the sex craved in all of us, grab a Harlequin Blaze. It's a whole lot of passion, good sex and a good story. You scoff and say no it's not like Fifty Shades and you are right....mostly. The majority of romance novels are not hardcore BDSM (I argue neither is FSoG) but there are a few that push the boundaries in a tasteful, erotic, romantic way. Might I also say that there are some regular fiction books that have hot and erotic scenes. There is a Sci Fi book series that I love to read that has one of my favorite in it. It even involves some rope and a hook.

I'm not one to judge people by what they read, I could care less but all I ask is that you go beyond just the Fifty Shades books. Pick up a HR or even some Ann Rice for some nice and naughty reads. There are so many more, (might I even say better) reads out there.

So ladies, read your Shades, pick up a Blaze and let your sexual freak flag fly!
